Technorati on again, off again in China
What is Technorati?
Although I am pretty sure you know what Technorati is, not everyone who stumbles upon this page would know. Just in case, let me briefly tell you what it is. Technorati tracks all of the incoming links to virtually any blog that has incoming links. It also periodically assigns an “authority” score to all such blogs based on the number of incoming links as well as the authority of the people sending these links.
The higher your authority, the better. As you can see, I have a pretty low authority and overall rank, but it’s better than nothing, right? The picture to the left is a thumbnail of my old website design - but it looks a lot better now, I think.
Unable to access Technorati in China until last week
Until last night (update: last Thursday), I was never able to access Technorati in China. It looks like the Great Firewall of China has finally let up on this matter, at least temporarily (actually access to it shut down again for several days, I put aside this post, and now the doors to Technorati have opened once more - update: closed again). Maybe they (the others) are trying to get fools like you and me to ensnare ourselves in the tangled web the others weave.
A useful tool in China or anywhere
Obviously Technorati is a useful tool to bloggers - one of the most useful. Although WordPress and other blogging software link to some incoming links, it tends to miss some and only displays a handful at a time. And while this site is still largely unknown, it’s nice to easily find out about the few who have sent links this way.
Is this the first time you have been able to access Technorati in China?
Let me know if Technorati has always been inaccessible to you in China, or if it’s just me, below. Thanks.
