Tickmaster wins 2008 Beijing Olympics
This news came out a little while ago, but it might be interesting to note what it means for the 2008 Beijing Olympics in China.
There is no doubt that this is a good (if not necessary) development. Although Ticketmaster will be forming a joint venture to take care of ticketing for the Beijing Olympics, a joint venture with Ticketmaster is far and away better than a Chinese company exclusively handling the ticketing for the China Olympics. They wouldn’t have the know-how brought by long experience in the industry that Ticketmaster has.
This is a clip out of an article The Wall Street Journal published on October 27:
This time, with a mandate to stay from the Beijing Organizing Committee, Mr. Leffler is laying the foundation for a long-term business in China. He is setting up at least 800 outlets to sell tickets throughout the country and expects the call center to handle reservations and sales. He also enlisted the support of Bank of China Ltd., one of the nation’s largest banks and a sponsor of the Games, at whose branches customers can pay for reserved tickets and pick them up.
So it looks like not only will there be a reputable company (Ticketmaster) behind the ticketing for the 2008 Beijing Olympics in China, but that tickets should be pretty convenient to buy within mainland China.
With technical issues resolved, now the question is: how will the customer service be for the ticketing of the 2008 Olympic games in China?
